I tried a free outdoor session in Central Park, Malvern and absolutely loved it!

What I really enjoy is how it combines gentle physical movement with mental calm. It is a great way to maintain the balance between keeping healthy whilst juggling my family, working full-time and completing a PhD.

I am currently at Level 1, the first of six levels, which feels a bit daunting, but the teachers are excellent and patient. With so many foundational moves to learn, I’m considering repeating this level a few times to master the movements and flow. I’m happy to take my time and progress at my own pace…

I enjoy understanding the Martial Art self- defence meanings behind each move and stance. For example, ‘playing the guitar’ is Level one ‘s last gentle flowing move but, at the time of martial arts, your hands and stance are important to defend against the opponent’s attack.

Thanks to the Armadale staff for everyone’s encouragement!

Birgitta, Student
Armadale Centre

I am a new student joining the the Celestial Tai Chi College this term. I live in St Kilda and I first enrolled at the St Kilda Centre which is held on Wednesday nights. But unfortunately I needed to look for another option after 2 lessons as the time overlapped with another training of mine. I was recommended the Armadale Centre on Monday evenings and even though that was a bit further away I decided to try the Centre. It takes me longer to get there and while driving I was not sure if I could commit doing that every Monday evening.

But as soon as I entered the class and saw Senior Master Chin Min Lian’s smiling and friendly face, I decided that I would stay. And I am so happy with the decision I made. The classes are so effective, everyone is so supportive and I am learning so much. Thank you, Celestial Tai Chi College, Senior Master Chi Min and Senior Instructor Yvonne Schmidt.

Basak Kerimoglu, Student
Armadale Centre

Updated: 26 November 2025

When the Senior Master, Chin Min Lian, asked to share our story why we started Thai Chi, I didn’t hesitate… I’ve just started Tai Chi thanks to some great recommendations from friends about its many benefits.
